What Sort Of Lenses Should I Have ?

Once an eye examination is complete a spectacle prescription may be issued. Your spectacles are made up especially for your requirements - it is unusual to find two people with the same prescription or for both eyes to have an equal prescription.

There are many different types of lenses that can be used and with the majority of these there is a choice between using glass or plastic to make the lens:-

Plastic are lightweight and therefore comfortable, but can be scratched.

Glass are tough, but heavier and are not usually used where safety is a factor.

Various bifocals are available for those who need different lenses for distance and near vision, but who only want one pair of spectacles.

Varifocals provide a progressive power change down the whole lens, but unlike bifocals have no dividing line. The most popular varifocal  brand is Varilux. Braham opticians are registered as a 'Varilux Specialist Optician'. Not only does this meen we are experanced in the supply and fitting of these market leading lenses, but we also  participate in the many exclusive money saving Varilux promotions. Photochromic lenses can be made to prescription so as to combine spectacles and sunglasses. Click here to find out more about the Transitions brand of photochromic lenses.

Many different tints and anti-reflection coatings can be applied to lenses, sometimes for clinical reasons or simply to improve cosmetic appearance.
High index materials can be used to make thinner lenses with notable improvement in looks.
